Needles, limbs and shade on a village roof
Roofs in wooded villages see a different pattern of wear from roofs on open ground. Pine needles pack into valleys and keep them wet. Small limbs scrape shingles in wind. Shade slows drying after rain, which gives moss a place to take hold on north-facing slopes.
Many Alden Bridge streets are lined with trees close to the house, so overhanging branches are worth a look from the ground. Research Forest Drive and Kuykendahl Road carry traffic nearby, but the side streets are quiet and the work is mostly about what grows above the house. A roof that is cleared and trimmed now and then often lasts longer.
